Much of the health concerns people face daily depend on what they put into their bodies. This includes anything from the foods you eat and the drinks you consume. Almost 90% of what you consume is directly related to water.

Not only does water make up for over 70% of your bodies (and the world), but it’s also seen in a lot of what people consume. Health practitioners globally recommend that you ensure that the water you use for drinking or cooking is safe for your consumption.

However, with so much pollution in the environment brought about by improper waste disposal, you can never really rely on your tap water to be safe for drinking.

So, what can you do?

  1. Water filtration

Filtration is hands-down the best and most effective way of purifying water. When using the right home water filter system, you can easily rid the water of unwanted compounds to make it clean and safe for human consumption.

Water filtration eliminates both large and small compounds and contaminants that cause diseases. The process is often simple and quick, depending on the filtration system.

Furthermore, it should be noted that filtered water does not deplete the water of all the mineral salts. This makes it a healthier method compared with other water purification methods.

  1. Boiling

Boiling water is the cheapest and most readily available water purification method that every household can do. Due to constant pollution and improper waste disposal techniques, much of the water is contaminated with parasites and germs that render the water unsafe for drinking.

To make it even worse, you cannot see these contaminants with your bare eyes, but their effects can be life-threatening. Boiling water helps eliminate these unseen contaminants that may bring about illnesses if consumed.

However, it should be noted that boiling water does not necessarily rid it of all the contaminants found in water. It may only kill the germs and bacteria, but not much of the non-living contaminants. This makes this type of water to be safe, but not necessarily clean.

To achieve optimal results from boiling water, it is necessary to boil the water for at least 1 to 3 minutes, cover, and leave it to cool before drinking. If you drew the water from wells, it is important to leave it for the compounds to settle before you filter out the clean water for consumption.

  1. Distillation

Distillation is a water purification method that utilizes heat to collect pure water in the form of water vapor. This water purification method is based on the scientific fact that water has a lower boiling point than most other contaminants found in water.

Water is subjected to heat until it boils and is left boiling until it vaporizes. The vapor is thereafter redirected to a condenser to cool. When it cools, the water vapor is reversed back into liquid water that is clean and safe for human consumption.

The only (and biggest) drawback to this method is that it might quite expensive to set it up and may not be ideal for domestic water purification.

While there are other methods used to purify water for human consumption, these three carry the day. This is because no chemicals are used and they can be done at any time. Nevertheless, water filtration is the easiest and most effective method of all. Only ensure to have the right home water filter system and you’re good to go.
